ash on the forehead,
a deep breath,
hands open to welcome the sky,
stomach apnea.
turn down the volume of things,
less power and less gas
,
less everything. Start walking

barefoot on earth, on rocks
forgotten in the street.
A song without instruments, without
vocals,
to hear the Word
what pace and slow down.
A dinner without bread,
without water, without wine.
to satisfy the hunger of others.
ash on the forehead,
to remove dust from the heart,

to dampen the fires that ravage the soul, to see unaided

to walk without crutches.
ash on the forehead,
a cross made of nothing,
not to flee from the real one.
ash on the forehead, the mark of God

in my life. A
suture
on bleeding wounds.

Emily Schenker

Favorable weather this
- it proclaims the word of God-
to heal a sick world,
in prayer and fasting saint.
the glorious light of Christ
the day of salvation shines
while the wounded hearts of guilt
renews abstinence and comfort.
God guides everyone to repent,
bodies and souls free and save:
lucky journey takes us
the feast of Passover perennial.
Everything I adore you, O God,
three times Lord infinite
new facts from your losses
sing the new song.
