the gift of knowledge and the virtue of faith

St. Thomas defines the gift of knowledge as a supernatural infused habit together with sanctifying grace, whereby the correct judgments about the intelligence of man in order to create things supernatural. It is clear that this gift is very different from what we normally mean by rational human science, based on experimentally verified data. It is a knowledge which proceeds from a special illumination of the Holy Spirit. With the gift of knowledge to grasp at a glance, the reality created in relationship to the Creator. In other words, it is that gift for a person in the grace of God gives an opinion on this temporal life to eternal life in order, and instead of stopping in finite things, unable to perceive them in their aspiration to infinity. To get this gift you must live in a state of grace.
The spiritual masters point out that the gift of knowledge is necessary, together with that of the intellect, to reach the full maturity of the theological virtue of faith. It is not enough to penetrate the truths of faith (gift of understanding), but we need a particular supernatural instinct to discover and correct judgments about the relationships between the divine truths of the faith and the natural world in which we live (the gift of knowledge). With the gift of knowledge we judge rightly on the use of creatures, their value and also their dangers in order to eternal life and preserves us from the grave danger of deifying creatures, men and their works.
The effects are: correct judgments of created things; experience the nothingness of the creature, its empty and then find out that bears a stamp of God, whether it be infinitely large, whether it is infinitely small, the ability to judge what you should believe from what you should not believe, who has the gift of knowledge in itself sensus fidei ie, without having studied theology, can distinguish whether a devotion, a doctrine, a council, any rule, agree or not with faith. With this gift, then we see readily the state of our soul: who has this gift does not cover is deceiving himself and has a clear perception of what stirs in his heart. In addition, it allows us to drive in the right way our neighbor. Who has the gift of knowledge together with that of the board is a great teacher in guiding souls. Finally, it teaches us to give the right value to the creatures and holy usarne.
The vice contrary to this gift is ignorance. It is not enough to overcome this defect the study of theology, where no the grace of God
To increase the gift of knowledge is needed grace, meditation, prayer, the invocation of the Spirit. It is good to dwell with the mind to consider the vanity of earthly things and get used to relate all the creatures with the Creator. Should vigorously resist the spirit of the world that denies the eternal life. We must learn to recognize the hand of providence in the government of the world and in human history and the personal. The more we keep our hearts pure and faithful to our duties, avoiding even the lesser sins, the more we get the lights from above.
With this gift we see creation as God made and designed.
