Towards the centenary of the Society of St. Paul Temple in San Paolo Alba
Tarcisio Cesarato
In this letter, Benedict XVI expresses his sorrow and anguish, expresses its full solidarity with the victims, gave his utter condemnation and that the rules because such an abomination not happen again.
On August 20, 1914 is the date of commencement of the Pauline Family. We are now at the gates of the first hundred years and we are planning to celebrate with gratitude and a renewed commitment to the important goal. One hundred years of life can become the occasion to mark a new beginning to recover the original spirit, giving a visible face to the whole work Alberione from the Mother House of Alba (Cn). In the heart of this house rises majestically Temple dedicated to St. Paul, which is an immense spiritual and human, before art, made of faith and heroic courage, an estimate unlimited to the Apostle of the Gentiles. For this Alberione has linked to the new form of evangelization with the modern means of communication and wanted it to be identified as "the church of the Catholic journalists."
Work began with the laying of the cornerstone June 28, 1925. For the same difficulties of various kinds were suspended and then resumed in late summer 1926. It is good to remember that the foundation is also a brick of the Holy Door of the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls in Rome. On 28 October 1928, one week of solemn celebrations, the temple was blessed by Bishop Joseph Francis King and was consecrated by Bishop Giulio Nicolini November 25, 1990, after the structural upgrades required by the Council. Alberione's Way - which was used to "think big" - the Temple could not be a small church. Alberione indeed enriched the culture and art, but not an end in themselves: the icons have always thought of as expressive of a project and ennobling spiritual, catechetical, liturgical and pastoral linked to its founding charism. So the best artists, the best companies, the materials stronger, more functional solutions had to answer about that. He was able to skillfully capture everyone - architects, artists, businesses and workers - a collaboration directed to the glory of God
Restoration. The celebration of the centenary obliges us to respect this vision of artistic and spiritual and apostolic Alberione and thus to act with wisdom and care on the overall structure of the Temple and its continuation. Recent work by accurate technical investigations revealed the need for action in three areas: 1) those associated with maintenance (roof, access for the disabled and electrical), 2) that the work be supported (again, facade cleaning, glass restoration, renovation organ), and 3) those associated optional (decoration of the side chapels and restoration of unfinished wood, you can reset the sub-temple with a meeting room of 250 seats, exhibition spaces, lounges, offices). The machine
fundraising for the restoration has already started up and, once again, want to follow the trail left by the founder, when he declared the Temple by the contribution of all: Paolini, Paolini, collaborators and sympathizers. "Oh, blessed church, - exclaimed on 1 April 1925 - the desire of our hearts and souls sigh! We see that the track and see the dig, and we see it build up, exclaim with the prophet: "How long is your beloved this house, O Lord !"... Oh, was given to build the walls and altars with living members and with throbbing hearts. " This
his desire to "humanize" the inert stone was first erected in the same Alberione, that when she was at Alba stood for long hours kneeling in the front row before the altar, and is now realizing, because time is already home and place of veneration of the first witnesses Pauline who have preceded us with strength and authentic apostolic spirit on "uncharted roads and sometimes just draw" the apostolate of the communication.
